WW1 Bayonet

A bayonet is a blade which can be attached to the end of a rifle in order to allow that weapon to be used as a spear. Until World War One long bayonets were accepted as giving soldiers an advantage in hand-to-hand combat and were a central part of military kit. This view began to be challenged in part when cramped trenches made shorter weapons more useful.

This bayonet is a ‘sword’ design which could also be used as a weapon by itself.
