A souvenir cushion commemorating the Northamptonshire (Northants) Regiment, sent home to Mrs Coles of Whittlesey by one of her serving sons.
Mrs Mary Jane Coles and Mr Daniel Coles of Nags Head Cottage, Factory Road, Whittlesey had three sons, all of whom were killed in the war: Pte. Arthur Coles died of wounds in the 2nd Northamptonshire Regiment on 3rd March 1915 and Pte. Walter Coles was killed in action in the 1st Northamptonshire Regiment on 29th September 1915. The eldest son, Pte. Herbert Coles, was killed in action in the 11th Cambridgeshire Suffolk Regiment on 1st July 1916, aged 23.
